KJ Smith was born in Tallahassee, Florida, and studied Business Marketing at Florida State University. KJ Smith later moved to Los Angeles and began her acting career appearing on comedy shows, including Conan, Real Husbands of Hollywood, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Survivor's Remorse, and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. In 2016, she had a recurring role in the Oprah Winfrey Network drama series Queen Sugar. She later guest-starred on Being Mary Jane, Saints & Sinners, Dynasty, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Black-ish. From 2015 to 2018, Smith had a recurring role in the Bounce TV sitcom Family Time. In 2019, KJ Smith starred in A Madea Family Funeral, the eleventh and final installment of the Madea film series.
