Kate Kerekes
Teacher in Chattanooga, Tennessee
Welcome! I’m Kate, a Spanish and history teacher living in Chattanooga, Tennessee. From an early age, I was keenly aware of my passion for education and working with children. After working as an itinerant middle school Spanish teacher in the Memphis area for several years, I moved to Chattanooga to work at an independent school teaching Spanish in an all-girls environment. I have also worked as an advisor for three years, developing the skills needed to help girls think critically, lead confidently, and live honorably.
Over the last two years, I have worked on creating an assessment system focused on skill-based measurements for a second language. I have always had a passion for implementing current technologies in my teaching and consider technology an asset to the language classroom. In a current one-to-one environment, my students use technology daily to collaborate and develop their language skills through Google Suite resources, Apple applications, FlipGrid, EduBlog, Padlet and others.
I believe in language learning and building cultural competence as a means to foster the notion of global citizenry. Focus areas of professional interest for me are vast yet intersecting: education, curriculum and instructional design, travel, and the incorporation of established and emerging technologies within educational settings. I definitely strive to create lifelong, globally-minded learners out of my students and colleagues who go on to become advocates for language and culture.
