Kim Kishbaugh is an online strategist and editorial director with deep roots in hard-news journalism and a love for non-profits. Currently the director of electronic communications strategy for the American Veterinary Medical Association, she also has worked for and with a variety of other non-profits in both paid and volunteer positions. Her passions and specialties include social media, website management and best practices, integrated communications, content strategy, web writing, analytics and search engine optimization. She also is passionate about the good work that is done on a daily basis by non-profit organizations around the world.

Before focusing on electronic communications, Kim cut her teeth in hard-news journalism. A graduate of the University of Illinois, she spent many years working in the news business in Chicago, mostly as assistant city editor at the City News Bureau of Chicago. She wasn't around when City News broke the Tylenol murders story, but she does remember covering Laurie Dann's shooting rampage in the northern suburbs, the death of Mayor Harold Washington, the collapse of Midway Airlines, and the killing of an 11-year-old gang member named Robert "Yummy" Sandifer. Among other stories.

After leaving City News, Kishbaugh moved into trade publishing, where she made the transition to online editorial direction and website strategy. Working for Cahners Publishing and then Reed Business Information, she helped build and focus websites and online strategies for a variety of publications covering the electronics and hospitality industries. She managed multiple websites and web portals, led the creation of new web products and electronic newsletters, guided SEO work, and trained editors to become bloggers before blogging became commonplace in business.

A resident of the Chicago suburbs, Kim shares her life with a husband, son and variety of four-legged creatures, currently including two former shelter dogs: Rolo, an Australian cattle dog – German shepherd mix; and Tank, a mixed-breed hound whose deep bark and long, low body attest to his Basset hound roots.
