I am a software designer and tech entrepreneur from Ireland. Up until recently I was a Research Fellow in a data analytics research centre but I am now working on my own commercialisaiton ideas.

I am founder of Aficionado Technologies, which provides resource and management solutions to academic institutions. I also head up A-Star Labs, where we develop intelligent and intuitive web applications. I am now working on my latest venture, bring AI technologies to enterprise.

I have a PhD in personalisation technologies and recommender systems. My research interests include: conversational, group and context-aware recommendation, explanation and reputation, data mining, machine learning, information retrieval, natural language processing and human decision making. I have six years postdoctoral experience, finishing up as a Research Fellow in the Insight Centre for Data Analytics based in University College Dublin, Ireland.

Aficionado is an expertise discovery and management technology for research and enterprise markets. We have just spun out of the university and have several licensed products in the wild.

I also head up A-star Labs, where we develop bespoke technology solutions embodying the latest research ideas and harnessing the latest software technologies with the most up-to-date design.

Apart from technology, I also have an interest in rugby. I am vice-captain of the 1st XV at Parkmore RFC. I also play 5-aside football and still have notions of learning guitar. I recently began sailing and am a proud crewman aboard the Utopia (Irl 1188).

The background picture was taken from the famous Oulart Hill in Co. Wexford, overlooking the area where I grew up.
