I am in my 3rd semester in the MLIS/MEd dual degree program. I am planning on becoming a school librarian upon graduation.

I chose this career path due to the huge digital divide and access to information issues children in my school district (primarily) and the surrounding districts face. I will never forget my first day teaching preschool at my community action center. Most of the children had never used a computer. Some of the children had never even seen a computer. Most of the children had to be taught how to treat books. One child had never even held a book...I will always remember the look on his face and the conversation: "What that?" That's a book. "What book?" You read it and look at the pictures. "Look, me?" Yes, you may look at the book. He hugs me and proceeds to carry the book around the rest of the day telling everyone that will listen about the treasure he had found. From that moment on, I realized that the children in my community were missing out. I am seeking out the best education and information to bring back to my rural area in order to do my part to close what I can of the digital divide and give our children the best start possible.

On a personal note:

I have a four year old daughter.

My son was born on Tuesday (2/26/13).

I married the first man I kissed, my high school sweetheart.

I love to read children's books. (Sometimes for myself!)

I love to dance and enjoy choreographing for all ages and styles with the smallest dancers holding a special place in my heart.
