I am an astronomer at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory (NOAO) headquarters in Tucson, AZ. I moved here in 2007 after spending 8 years living in Chile at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory. I do research on stars in nearby galaxies, in particular the Magellanic Clouds and the Andromeda Galaxy. I like to try to figure out what these naked eye galaxies would have looked like if I'd been alive for the past 12 billion years. The upcoming Large Synoptic Survey Telescope, which I am helping to promote, will be really useful for this through its collection of Petabytes of data of the southern sky.
