Artist in Pietermaritzburg
Thabiso Dlamini, known to fans as Kolo, is a dynamic hip-hop artist hailing from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. From a young age, Kolo’s passion for music was ignited by the rhythmic flows of Eminem, played by his uncle, an underground rapper. Although the lyrics initially eluded him, the energy and cadence planted a seed that grew into a lifelong dedication to hip-hop.
By primary school, Kolo was already writing and performing his own songs, driven by a raw ambition and creative spirit. His breakthrough came after joining NFX Studios, where a collaboration sparked recognition in the local rap scene. In 2014, he independently released his debut EP, Masterpiece, which sold over 8000 CD copies and showcased his authentic voice and storytelling ability.
Kolo’s music blends honest, streetwise wisdom with uplifting messages of strength, hope, and resilience—reflecting his personal journey through life’s challenges. His evolution from underground rapper to a skilled hip-hop singer and producer demonstrates his versatility, as he masterfully mixes vocals and explores genres from Afro pop to blues influences.
Beyond music, Kolo is deeply committed to authenticity and connection, encouraging listeners to embrace vulnerability and truth. His collaborations with notable artists in Lesotho and South Africa have expanded his creative horizons and solidified his place in the industry. Currently, he is working on a highly anticipated studio album, DUMAZILE, aiming to leave a lasting legacy that empowers upcoming artists and inspires fans.
Energetic, ambitious, and grounded, Kolo’s journey is a testament to the power of hard work and imagination.
