Since 1983, I have pursued a career in one of the most if not the most volatile industries in North America. I started as a labourer in the residential construction industry and within a few short years transitioned to commercial construction obtaining certification as journeyman carpenter as well as gold seal certification in project management. Working on commercial and industrial projects of varying size and complexity. As far as favourite types of projects, it still remains the renovation, whether it has an historical nature or an addition, these types of projects have the most challenges. The straight forward new builds are fine as well and seem to receive the most attention for reasons of their own.
From Journeyman Carpenter, to estimator/coordinator to now having spent 15 years as Project Manager I can without hesitation claim I have a expert knowledge of my industry. With continued upgrades in education including education seemingly not related to the construction industry I have been able to make a positive contribution to many satisfied building owners.
Private owners, governments and commercial entities will always require structures. Whether it's single or multi residential, office space, industrial use or military there is no substitute for experience.
