--- About me ---

"When I was young I wanted to go to the moon / but I've only made it to Milwaukee," begins my poem So Long to the Good Old Moon. The poem reflects much of my life's philosophy about love and finding contentment in life - even when things don't work out quite like you planned.

I really did want to be an astronaut when I was young, but I was way too nearsighted for NASA standards. Luckily, I also wanted to be a teacher, a country music singer, an architect, and... well, something different each day of the week.

Years later, I still have widely varied interests. But after more than 20 years in insurance analytics and technology, I'm now focused on my work as a poet and advocate for arts, democracy, afternoon naps and other good causes. I'm the principal founder, and curator of Poetry in the Boro, a monthly reading and open mic series. In June 2017 I was selected the inaugural poet laureate of Murfreesboro, Tennessee as part of the city's new Arts Laureates program.
