Katarzyna Kosmala

Katarzyna Kosmala,PhD is Professor of Culture, Media and Visual Arts at the University of the West of Scotland, Visiting Research Fellow at the European Institute of Gender Studies GEXcel at Linköping University and Örebro University, Sweden, an art writer and a curator. She was Visiting Professor at Fundacao Getulio Vargas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She writes regularly about video and new media art in international journals and catalogues. Her new book Imagining Masculinities: Spatial and Temporal Representation and Visual Culture(2013, Routledge) through a European perspective and applying an international lens, investigates representations of men and masculinities in contemporary culture, and examples of visual art that deconstruct those representations. Recently co-edited Art Inquiry on Crossing Borders: Imaging Europe, Representing Periphery (with Ryszard Kluszczyński) (Łódzkie Towarzystwo Naukowe, 2013) and currently working on the book The Arts, Social & Organisational Change: Precarious Spaces (Intellect Press). In 2012, she curated Intermediality of Image and Politics, a major survey of 30 years of video work collaboration by Marina Gržinić and Aina Šmid (Centre for Contemporary Arts CSW Łaznia Gdańsk, Poland and CCA, Glasgow). Lives and works in Edinburgh, Scotland.
