Kosta Hronis
Delano, CA
A leader in the production of table grapes and citrus fruits, Kosta Hronis has several decades of experience as Chief Executive Officer and President of Hronis Inc. in Delano, California. His responsibilities encompass the everyday operation of family-owned vineyards and orchards, the transport of freshly picked fruit to temperature-controlled storage facilities, and holding to the four-hour shipping commitment that helps extend the life of produce sent to client stores. A family focused business, the leadership of the produce enterprise includes not only Kosta Hronis but also his brother and son. In fact, each phase of the company's activities involves a member of the Hronis family.
Under the family’s guidance, Hronis Inc. commits to sustainable farming practices by applying modern technological solutions and instituting strategies to reduce the ecological impact of farming. For example, in response to the ever-increasing threat posed by invasive insects to the health of grape and citrus plants, the company implemented integrated pest management (IPM), a strategy that focuses on biological solutions to pest problems. IPM has allowed California farms to lower pesticide use by more than 65 percent since the late 1990s.
Beyond supervising his grape and citrus business, Kosta Hronis participates actively in the sport of horseracing. Since childhood, he and his brother have dreamed of owning a racehorse, and in 2010, they purchased their first horse. Eventually, they enlisted the services of trainer John Sadler, who helped grow Hronis Racing into a stable of 14 horses. A filly from the stable, Lady of Shamrock, won this year's American Oaks, a $350,000 race. Kosta Hronis' children often attend racing events with their father.
