Kourtney Salyer

I hail from a small town in Eastern Kentucky called Salyersville where I grew up devouring books like Junie B. Jones and being the only child in my classroom to enjoy portfolio writing. I loved writing my pieces based on my favorite books (I guess you could call it an early form of "fan fiction" writing). Books like Junie B. and The Magic Tree House books inspired me to write and create.

When I arrived at Morehead State I decided to follow my passion for reading and creating when choosing my major. Consequently, I study middle grades language arts and social studies. My primary professional goal is to become a teacher who fosters a love of reading and growing in my classroom. I desire to encourage my own students to draw inspiration from their favorite stories when improving their own craft. I believe being enrolled in Professional Writing will help me become a more confident writer and improve my own skills so I am prepared to give my future students the best instruction under a motivated and excited teacher!
