I celebrate the inevitability of digitization as an unimaginably powerful, but infinitely fragile, enhancement of the worldwide literacy on which we all—readers and nonreaders—depend.
--Jason Epstein, "Publishing: The Revolutionary Future" (March, 2010)
It took me 7 years, but I did it; I finally made it into the publishing industry in July of 2013. It's an industry that is ever evolving, shaping and shifting--but its importance can never be valued enough.
As a recent graduate of The George Washington University's M.P.S in Publishing program, I am confident in my ability to converse about a range of topics including book marketing, print production, editorial concepts, book design, and web technology.
Experience in Distribution, Technology, and Acqusitions areas at The World Bank with direct involvement with the uploading of economic research papers and content along with metadata organization for the Open Knowledge Repository and the World Bank eLibrary, highlight attention to detailed workflow processes including Creative Commons Liscensing, tech savvyness regarding XML, and writing capabilities which led to the creation of several abstracts on the World Development Report (2014) featured on the Open Knowledge Respository. All of this is in addition to baseline knowledge concerning relevant topics in the publishing industry.
Past experience at The Langan School Center for Disabilities Services as a Lead Educator in a Special Education classroom helped me to initiate life-changing cognitive and physical goals for students ages 4-13, build relationships with a multitude of educational therapists, and learn how to lead a classroom of twelve students and up to five team-members in daily activities.
While a part of me still envions a way to assist with children's causes in the future, the current version of my life involves continuing to learn and grow in the publishing arena.
