I found my passion for design when I sketched out this "Naked" ad campaign for a clothing optional retreat. I was an inside sales rep at the San Diego Reader. We were expected to not only sell the ads, but to come up with the content for them...from an attention getting headline to the body copy, to the offer and the layout.
My campaign was clever.
When I realized that I had the power to use my creativity to get an audience to feel something, selling ad space just wasn't good enough anymore. I wanted to paint the world with my double entendres and quick wit. I went to the Art Institute of San Diego to learn everything I needed, then I quit my job and started my first design company, Branded Studio, Inc.
My focus over the years was helping small and medium sized companies build the right brand and message and I was able to see the fruit of my labor in the success of their businesses. In 2006 I noticed that most of my clients were associated with the real estate market - and things were really booming. In 2007, that BOOM quickly became a BOMB and I was left in rubble.
From that rubble I emerged. Like a zombie (okay, maybe not like a zombie, but I feel like "phoenix" is just so overused) into something spectacular - Internet Marketing.
Never before had I seen a world that was making money with some of the ugliest "design" I have ever witnessed. I literally wanted to poke my eyeballs out instead of looking at some of the designs I was asked to do. And the phraseology of "Good Enough" was also thrown at me.
Good Enough?
I was a designer. A perfectionist. "Good Enough" just didn't compute.
Slowly we proved that great design, branding and creativity with the right marketing message creates millions of dollars.
We took our marketing knowledge, our creativity and our unflappable desire to succeed and built our business, LaunchMen, The Creative Digital Marketing Agency. We've built a brand and a reputation that supersedes anything I could have ever imagined, with client superstars like Dan Kennedy, Tony Robbins, Mike Koenigs, Andy Jenkins, Ali Brown, Rich Schefren, Debbie Ford, Brendon Burchard… the list continues to grow every day.
I feel blessed that from one little naked ad campaign, through the trials of a down economy, I've come out on the other side stronger, smarter and doing exactly what I love.
