Kris Thorkelson

An accomplished entrepreneur who makes his home in the city of Winnipeg, Kris Thorkelson has more than twenty five years of experience as a business leader, having founded and led a number of pharmacy businesses to success.

Kris Thorkelson began his career after graduating from the University of Manitoba, with his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. He started at HW Pharmacy in Winnipeg and just three months later, he and a partner purchased the business. After 18 months, he became the sole proprietor at HW Pharmacy and eventually sold the business to Safeway Canada in 1995.

Kris is the owner and founder of The Prescription Shop, which has two outlets in Winnipeg. The retail shops employ a staff of 6 pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who run the day-to-day operations of the stores.

From 2004 to 2006 and 2008 to 2010, Kris served as a councillor for the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association (now known as the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba).

In 2001, Kris Thorkelson formed an online pharmacy, Canada Drugs, in response to the rising costs of prescription medication and to help a greater number of people take advantage of prescription price savings available in Canada. For over seventeen years, Canada Drugs helped millions of patients gain access to the best prices on the best brand and generic medications, with Kris building Canada Drugs to a company employing hundreds of staff members.

Kris’ entrepreneurial spirit also led to the recent creation of Thorwin Properties, a real estate company dedicated to helping discerning renters find quality apartments in Winnipeg. Thorwin Properties features a list of apartment vacancies in Winnipeg.

The Thorwin Properties site also includes resources for tenants, such as tenant forms, testimonials and information on current open houses. Thorwin Properties has built partnerships with local businesses within the community who are willing to participate in the Thorwin Properties Benefits Program, which includes a discount rate with MTS Services and an early renewal bonus, with more benefits to come.
