Hi all! Welcome to page. My name is Kristianne Nichol and I am currently a student at the University of Guelph, studying my third year of Biological Science. Before I applied to University, I was living in the Beaches, which is a little community located in Toronto, Ontario and was attending high school at Malvern Collegiate Institute. Throughout my high school and university experience, my academic interests have remained relatively constant. I enjoy studying human biology, specifically illness and disease. I am fascinated by the expanding understanding of the medical world and aim to be a medical professional for part of my carrier. After my undergraduate degree, I will apply to Radiation Therapy at Michener’s Institute, located in Toronto Ontario. Patient care has always been an interest of mine from a young age. Aside from my avid curiosity in this field, I am also a relatively positive individual which is an important quality of a Radiation Therapist. I would do my best to help patients look at the positive sides of their unfortunate situation.
Aside from my academic interests, I enjoy working on my personal health and fitness, travelling, and spending time with friends and family. Interestingly, I spent the last semester travelling South America alone. During this experience, I learned a lot about myself, the world, and the amount individuals in first world countries have to be thankful for. Throughout travelling, I volunteered in numerous places, one of them being an animal shelter in Cusco, Peru. I worked with an animal specialist who has immensely inspired and impacted my views of the medical world. Dr. Jones, the animal specialist, was able to save the lives of hundreds of animals with very minimal resources. She was completely invested in her job and did her absolute best to make sure these animals lived the best life they could with the conditions they had. The effort and care Dr. Jones put into her work is something I will never forget and has allowed me to see the importance of loving your occupation. Another science professional that has inspired me is my mother. She began her career as a labor and delivery nurse and is now Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive for VHA. She has allowed me to see the difference one individual can have on a community, group of people, or persons alone. Hope you enjoyed getting to know me. Thanks for stopping by!
