Kristoffer Szilas
I got my PhD in geology from the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) in 2012. Since then I have been working as a researcher at Columbia University and Stanford University in the US. I study rocks from Greenland, which are among the oldest on Earth with ages up to 3800 million years old. One of the questions that I'm addressing is how the continents formed and specifically when plate tectonics began to operate on Earth.
When I'm not doing science or spending time with my wife and son, I like to travel to remote places and climb mountains. This is a great way of clearing the mind and getting a fresh look on priorities in life. So far these meditative expeditions have taken my to the mountains of Nepal, Kyrgyzstan, Sichuan, Peru, Alaska and Patagonia.
