A native of Belgium with roots in France, Kristof Van Grysperre, hailed by The Orange County Register as “gifted and stylistically impeccable” and “with pugilistic power and sensitivity,” has conducted numerous productions at Long Beach Opera to high acclaim, including Frida, Candide, La Voix Humaine, Hydrogen Jukebox and the world premiere of Fallujah, which was live broadcasted by KCET and which he also conducted in his recent NYC Opera debut. Kristof Van Grysperre recently conducted The Consul at Chicago Opera Theater.
Whether it be traditional or modern repertoire, on the podium he is well known and respected for clarity and precision and his great mastery of details. With a repertoire of over fifty operas, Kristof Van Grysperreconducted performances for Opera Pacific, Baltimore Opera Studio, Intimate Opera Company, USC Opera and Cal State LA. Also committed to foster emerging talent, he is the artistic director of Angels Vocal Art, where he conducted La Traviata, Anya17 and a Gran Gala di Verdi at the past summer festivals.
A highly sought-after coach for singers and conductors, he has been engaged by various organizations, including Tanglewood Music Center Vocal Program, Aspen Opera Center, Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra, SongFest, California Conducting Workshop and University of Southern California, where Kristof Van Grysperrealso served as acting music director of the USC Thornton Opera.
