Kristy & Chris Collins
We are 1 of 1,000.
Chris lived in Vanuatu, an island in the South Pacific, with the Peace Corp in 2002. We went back together to visit in 2009. We were amazed by the thriving gardens that fed entire villages. Although Vanuatu is economically considered to be "developing," the agriculture sustains healthy and productive lifestyles. With 84 inches of rain per year and 80% relative humidity, water is a key part of the health and sustainability of this island. In areas where rainfall is not so prevalent, it is clear that water pumps and other irrigation sources are key to reducing poverty.
The Adventure Project is currently fighting rural hunger by supporting small farmers through the innovative and low cost solution of a Kickstart irrigation pump. These pumps are effectively empowering farmers to lift their own families out of poverty. Go to: oneto1000 to learn how to increase a farmers income 1,000%.
