I am a recent graduate of the University of Delaware where I received a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising and a minor in Journalism. During my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to intern with Under Armour in their Hong Kong Sourcing Office. There I developed vendor profiles and scorecards, which sparked my interest in sourcing. Who knew making charts all day pertaining to each vendor could be so exciting.
I recently accepted a position with Burlington (hooray for my first job!) as an Assistant Buyer. While I have yet to find out what department I’ll be buying for, this position will take me to New York City two times a week to meet with vendors. As a country girl who lives in the middle of nowhere surrounded by the Amish community, cities have always excited me and I am looking forward to my weekly NYC trips.
Journalism and traveling have always been big parts of my life and I hope to obtain a fashion career that allows me to incorporate both. While in Hong Kong, I was our group’s blog coordinator where I edited posts and wrote about my travel/work experiences. Traveling has allowed me to take risks—up and leaving home to go to Hong Kong for the summer was the biggest decision I have ever made—and has urged me to keep an open mind when experiencing different cultures. In a perfect world where money grew on trees, I would visit every country and blog about my travels. I have this thing where I want to go everywhere twice because I don’t want to miss anything.
While I’m very excited for my Assistant Buyer position, ideally I hope to obtain a sourcing career in the future that will allow me to travel to different countries and meet with vendors. I wouldn’t mind living abroad for a few years, but I’ll make that decision when the time comes. I’m always up for adventure, but it’s time to focus on my current adventure with Burlington.
