I began triathlon as a bucket list item during the second year of graduate school at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UCSD).

My thesis explores the soundscapes that whales communicate in, specifically the North Pacific humpback whale population. This means I am always traveling between Mexico, Alaska, and Hawaii to do fieldwork.

Learning how to fit training and race schedules between field seasons has been a struggle and highly rewarding. This is because I miss time with my teammates in San Diego, but also get to race in other states and countries on a whim -- and therefore it's an amazing sightseeing adventure!

In the past five years, I have competed in three collegiate nationals races, finished five half ironman races, and one full (MiTi FTW!). My favorite distance is the half, and I like to learn a new sport each summer to make the beginning of race season like a homecoming.
