Kulvir Singh Virk

Freelance architect Kulvir Singh Virk travels all over the world, working with clients to make their construction projects a reality. He is also regularly called upon to design alterations or extensions to existing buildings and frequently works collaboratively with engineers and other architects. Kulvir was born in Cardiff, UK, and although he has a house in this city he is often away from home as part of his work.

To Kulvir, the opportunity that being freelance gives him to travel is an element of the work he relishes. Kulvir has visited many countries around the globe, particularly enjoying visits to locations with exceptional architecture such as Istanbul, India’s Golden Triangle, Barcelona, Florence, Rome, Athens, the Yucatan Peninsula and Hanoi in Vietnam.

Kulvir cites the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as one of the most impressive examples of contemporary architecture to be found. The structure is also one of the tallest in the world, towering above the city skyline in a spectacular display of glass and steel and offering mesmerising panoramic views.

For Kulvir, Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is another favourite destination that offers stunning examples of both 18th century neoclassical and modern architecture, such as the National Aquarium and the Royal Danish Opera House.

Connected to his love of travel is Kulvir’s passion for cooking. He greatly enjoys sampling the cuisines of the countries he visits to better immerse himself in the culture of each destination. He particularly enjoys Spanish food and regularly prepares dishes including patatas bravas (fried potatoes served with a spicy tomato sauce), seafood paella and salmon in salsa verde.
