A graduate of the University of Manitoba (UM), Kumuena Tekasala holds both a bachelor of science in kinesiology and a master of science in occupational therapy from the school. His accomplishments at UM include introducing high school students to the occupational therapist (OT) occupation through the University’s Discovery Days program and answering the questions of incoming master of occupational therapy students as an orientation volunteer. Over the course of his career, Kumuena Tekasala has served OT tenures with the Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre and the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.

Mr. Tekasala most recently served a year as an OT with Winnipeg’s Riverview Health Centre and two years as an OT and provisional school clinician with Winnipeg’s River East Transcona School Division (RETSD). While both of these positions involved assessing and assisting individuals with injuries, disorders, and special needs, Kumuena Tekasala’s activities with the RETSD also extended to advising school clinicians and educators alike on proper support frameworks for children with disabilities.
