Anna Kunnas

Student, Scout, and Volunteer in Helsinki, Finland

I am 31 years old and originally from Helsinki, Finland. I study Community Education with a focus on NGO and youth work at Humak University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki. I have been an active Scout for over 20 years and currently serve as the communications officer for my troop, managing social media, events, and member communications.

I also volunteer as a peer tutor with HERO (Helsingin seudun erilaiset oppijat ry) and have interests in youth education, human rights, animal welfare, and knitting.

Background & Skills: After not being accepted to any schools in the upper secondary joint application procedure, I applied to and was accepted at Nuorisotyöpaja Sininen Verstas, where I spent one term (autumn semester) working daily with fabric printing. Although I was the youngest participant, this experience gave me an early insight into the importance of youth work and hands-on skills in a creative environment.

I hold two vocational qualifications from Stadin Ammatti- ja aikuisopisto: in Interior Building & Upholstery and Fashion Sewing (Textile & Clothing). These experiences have strengthened my creativity, attention to detail, and project management skills, which I now apply in both my studies and volunteer work.

After my vocational studies, I have worked as an Interior Builder at Laatulattiat Uusimaa Oy, a telemarketer at Voicemarketing Oy, and, alongside my studies, I occasionally work as a personal assistant at Karun-Palvelut Oy.

Motivation: I am studying to become a community educator because I am passionate about supporting young people and contributing to meaningful projects in NGOs and community organizations, where I can combine my practical skills, volunteer experience, and dedication to youth work.
