Kurt Henry
New York
Kurt Henry is an experienced musician, and celebrated guitarist, who has played with acclaimed artists such as Rick Danko and Chuck Berry, and opened for The Byrds, Asleep at the Wheel, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. He is the creator of four albums: From Our Religions We’ll Be Free (2011); Heart, Mind & All (2008), Love’s Enough (2004); and One…
Kurt is the leader of The Kurt Henry Band, which consists of Alan Groth (who first worked with Kurt when they both played in the celebrated 1970s New Paltz band, The Womblers), drummer Eric Parker, and singer and life partner, Cheryl Lambert. Kurt’s leadership has placed the band at the forefront of the Catskill Alternative sound.
Kurt’s music explores a wide variety of styles, including folk, jazz, Delta blues, and jam rock. He brings his deep belief in the healing and teaching power of music into every performance, and believes in using music to make an earnest call for peace and unity.
His musical debut at Greenwich Village’s historic Village Gaslight in 1968 served as a fitting introduction for Kurt into the music world. Today, nearly 50 years since his debut, Kurt still cites the romanticism of the 1960s as a major influence on his work: “It’s about my romanticism of the period -- in fact, I believe the 60s rediscovered the Romantics… People really did try, and I remain touched by that.”
You can find Kurt Henry and The Kurt Henry Band performing throughout the Hudson Valley area.
