Kuruvindum was conceptualized by Rahul Dev Gupta (see https://about.me/rahuldevgupta) to pursue his passion for SciTech while also leveraging his academic background of a post-graduation in management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) and a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Electronics Engineering.

The very name “Kuruvindum” was coined by him to crystallise and incorporate within it a diverse set of aspirations, ideas and influences. The webpage http://www.kuruvindum.com/whythisname.htm has some more details.

Kuruvindum invests in Tech Intensive start-ups that have significant tech-IP (existing or potential). We are technology-agnostic and generally seek to invest with a medium to long term investing horizon.

Within the above, our investment preference focus is for early-stage companies i.e. companies that are in the pre-commercialisation/pre-revenue stage.

Because early stage investment embed higher risks within themselves, we manage our risk profile by (i) spreading our investments across a large number of startups and (ii) investing carefully thought-out amounts per company.

We recognize the perils (+ the associated charm!!) of micro-managing our investee companies and try to avoid this as far as possible. We do hand-hold the entrepreneur(s) but only on a case-by-case basis + as & when requested and/or needed.

While we do not have any specific geographical preferences, our investments were 100% India-centric till recently when we did our first cross-border investment in a USA BioTech start-up.

We are open to looking at new investments in India as well as abroad wherein our differentiated investment approach can add value.
