Kutre

Kutre started playing as a young boy on the Piano. After being forced into Piano lessons and music rules he found freedom of expression through the electric guitar. He took a couple of lessons and learned everything else on his own and by playing by himself and creating his own sounds. Kurt was also fascinated with the Drums, but had nowhere to play drums and soon discovered that he could release his rhytmic insides through the Bass Guitar. From there it was a roller coaster ride. Playing with different guitarists as a teenager, again taking no lessons and coming up with his own style. In his late teens, Kurt took a brief hiatus from music to discover the world. He soon returned to his love for the Bass, inspired by a Primus show at the Berkeley Greek Theater, which also featured the legendary Mike Watt. Kurt tried playing in other bands, but mostly stuck with guitarists, which was hard because Kurt had some music that needed to be let out, but most guitarists just wanted standard bass lines so that THEY could express themselves, well... Kurt met a drummer named Gomes in 1992 and this drummer liked playing along with just the BASS, this opened up a can of worms and creativity and these two recorded at 1427 studios in San Francisco......Eventually Kurt and Gomes were roped into playing several years in different bands in San Francisco under his Bass name “Kutre”. The bands included The Johnny Oats Hour, TYG, Kurt (Organic Drum and Bass Project), 3 Phanta’stic Men, The Owl and the Hawks and sitting in with other bands and singers as needed. until... Kurt Andrew started his own San Francisco- based internet music Label in January 1999. From 1997 thru 1999, Kurt was researching the MP3 format and the potential that this would create for independent promotion, marketing and self-distribution for unsigned bands and songwriters. Kurt had experience with an A&R; rep from Interscope that was interested in his band 3 Phanta’stic Men but as this project fell through, this was the spark for wanting to have his own label. Given the amount of money that a typical record label would need and his experience with the internet since 1991 and computers, he created his own label deemed chameleon Music. Due to Kurt’s interest in all genres from Classical to Rap to Heavy Metal and Country, he wanted something that reflected his tastes in music and where he saw the internet populations’ tastes going due to the expansion of music availability through the internet.
