Kwenadi Phalama

Hi, my name is Kwenadi Phalama, and I am a third-year Bachelor of Education student at the University of Johannesburg, specializing in English and Neurodevelopmental Learning Needs (NDL).

My journey as a student teacher has strengthened my passion for creating meaningful learning experiences where every learner is valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential. My specialization in NDL has profoundly shaped my teaching philosophy, rooted in a simple yet powerful belief: “no learner should be left behind”. Every learner enters the classroom with unique strengths, experiences, abilities, and challenges. Therefore, it is my responsibility as a teacher to recognize these differences and create learning opportunities that enable every child to thrive. I believe that effective teaching is not about expecting learners to adapt to one way of learning; rather, it is about adapting my teaching to meet the diverse needs of every learner.

To me, inclusive education is far more than a policy; it is a commitment to equity, belonging, and equal opportunity. I am passionate about advocating for learners with neurodevelopmental learning needs and ensuring that they are not only supported in special schools, but are also welcomed, accommodated, and empowered within mainstream classrooms.

My mission is to become an educator who inspires, advocates, and leads with compassion. I aspire to contribute to an education system where inclusion is the standard, diversity is embraced, and every learner feels seen, heard, and valued. I hope to be remembered not only for the lessons I taught but also for the confidence I inspired, the barriers I helped remove, and the opportunities I created for learners who might otherwise have been overlooked.
