People say that being an immigrant has its ups and downs. I 100% believe that is true and I can say that because I have been an immigrant in the United States for 13 years now. I was seven years old enjoying my youth in my motherland. Until one day, my mom told me we were moving but she didn’t tell me exactly where because she knew I would not wanna go. I was just a little girl who would go to school and come back and ride my electric bicycle in the neighborhood. That might sound boring to some but it was so much fun for me. I loved being in that environment. So moving here was a huge drastic change for me. It was the language barrier and not knowing anything about the States. My mom simply said since you’re still young you will soon adapt and find ways to fit in. I believed her but it was really hard, it took me months to learn English and make friends. I had to adapt to the four different seasons which I was not used to at all. Living in Vietnam there was only one season. It would be sunny and hot everyday. That quickly changed in the States, obviously because we moved across the world. 13 years later, I am a college student at the University of Georgia and my grandparents back in Vietnam are so proud of their little granddaughter.
