Kyla Hamm

Mother, Teacher, and Musician in Creston, BC

My name is Kyla Hamm and I am excited and grateful to writing to you from the the traditional and unceded territory of the Ktunaxa Nation, Yaqan Nuʔkiy, where I have the privilege of living and working. I have been teaching for 17 years, entering my 6th in Creston, BC where I am a Gr. 7 classroom teacher at Adam Robertson Elementary School. Prior to coming here, my family and I were overseas. We spent two years in Tarsus, Turkey, 4 years in Seoul, South Korea where I had my two children, and 6 years in Monterrey, Mexico. I have spent most of my teaching years in English Language Arts and Performing Arts areas, and most recently as an intermediate classroom teacher diving into all subject areas. I've also enjoyed many years in my past life as a vocalist and songwriter, and continue to direct music and musical theatre today.

My husband, Brian, and I have two kids, Lachlan (Grade 8) and Charlie (Grade 7) who keep us very busy with all sorts of fun. Our days are spent in and amongst their activities and peers, either at school or in extra-curricular sports and arts, and I truly enjoy this vibrant and transformational age. As a family, we are very committed to and involved in school and community life, through participating, coaching, directing, or cheering from the sidelines.

I grew up and studied in Saskatchewan and Alberta, living in several northern rural communities where my mom was also a teacher, and have now settled in BC's beautiful interior. We are finding it to be a great place to continue to grow as educators and enjoy raising our family.
