I have always had an immense interest in art and design. For as long as I can remember, I have constantly implemented my creative imagination into the world around me. Constantly, my mind flows with the desire to create. In elementary school, I used my creative genius to make a pretend club with my friends. We called it “KK Designs.” The name represented the first letter of me and my best friend Kelly’s names. Us founders, along with a couple of our other friends, spent endless hours of our free time after school and on weekends, creating various products, advertisements, and posters for our club. We made and sold makeup products using whatever we could find under our sinks and even went as far as to create a weekly newspaper. I would like to think this pretend club with my friends was the start of my career in the field of design.
In middle and high school, after I outgrew my make-believe club phase, I used my creative talents elsewhere- in the art studio. Over the years, I thrived in various art classes and found myself immersed in the creative world. I loved every second of it and found joy in new art mediums and subjects. I found myself longing to constantly grow my abilities and use my imagination in new and varying ways whenever possible.
Many people have no idea who or what they want to become when they grow up. For most, finding a career of interest is deemed stressful and agonizing. It seems to be a never-ending problem with no real solution. For me, this decision came easily, because I knew I wanted to continue growing in my creative outlet. I hoped that one day, I would have the opportunity to turn my design inspiration into a stable and fulfilling career. I decided early on in high school that I wanted to pursue art and design once I got to college. Today, I’m thankful enough to study interior design at my dream university, surrounded by people who share the same interests as me. Looking back on my childhood, I thank “KK Designs” for implementing in me a passion that has only since magnified and I look forward to continuing my design interests forever to come.
