Elena Bennett is a world renowned, critically acclaimed, award-winning singer/entertainer. After spending the last few years in Florida as the "girl singer" for an 18-piece big band, THE MUSIC MASTERS, she has returned to her hometown of NYC where she formerly starred in many shows on the cabaret circuit, such as: JUST US, ELENA BENNETT SINGS PIAF, and ERIK AND THE SNOW MAIDENS. She is the winner of a Manhattan Association of Cabaret’s (MAC) Hanson Award, and a BACK STAGE MAGAZINE BISTRO Outstanding Vocalist Award, and was named Best Piano Bar Entertainer of the Year by IN THEATRE MAGAZINE, and CABARET SCENES MAGAZINE selected her as one of the Top Acts of the Century in January 2000. She produced and recorded her big band album, A WRINKLE IN SWINGTIME with arranger/conductor and frequent collaborator, Fred Barton in 1999. That same year, she was chosen by the City of Sydney, Australia’s Manager of Cultural Affairs and Protocol to be the guest star and co-judge of their Cabaret Convention (accompanied by Barton). That same year, they enjoyed a long run of BENNETT AND BARTON'S SONG SALON, the format of which helped give birth to THE FOLLOW SPOT weekly event at IRIDIUM, which she co-hosted with Barton from January through June. She has previously appeared at IRIDIUM, both as a guest of the legendary LES PAUL TRIO, and in performances with Barton. In 2002, she starred in the East Coast tour of the big band musical, FOREVER SWING. Selections from A WRINKLE IN SWINGTIME are heard on radio stations all across the country and around the world, and a sequel album is in the works. The team of Bennett and Barton are appearing on October 21st at the 2011 Mabel Mercer Cabaret Convention, and will be performing at other venues in New York City and elsewhere in the upcoming year. She grew up in Riverdale, NY and Woods Hole, MA, and is a graduate of The Ethical Culture Fieldston Schools and Connecticut College where she co-founded the Elena Bennett - Chip Miller Jazz Trio, and sand in an a capella group, The ConnChords. She also lived for 3 years in Yarmouth, ME, where she sang with the Charles Brown Band.
