ELLE FASHIONISTA: FASHION FIXER WARDROBE WARRIOR

I was born to be fashionista, including the shoe fetish. My maternal grandmother made hats as a teenager on the lower East Side of Manhattan, as did her now-famous contemporaries Coco Chanel and Hattie Carnegie. There is where the similarity to Coco Chanel ends. Had Celia Lewis Naboshek stayed in Manhattan instead of moving to New Hampshire to open a woman's haberdashery her husband, she might have achieved the kind of success Hattie Carnegie did.

My father's side of family worked in New York's garment district. My paternal grandfather was a cutter. My father became co-owner of Ever Better Skirt Co. He made a killing in the "jungle" when felt and poodles were popular. I loved going to work with him so I could play with all of the colorful buttons. But he had loftier goals. If only he had acquired 'Hattie Carnegie' after her death in 1956..... I might have realized my dream decades earlier.
