Hamish Laird

Dr. Hamish Laird is CTO atELMG Digital Power. After finishing high school and an undergraduate in engineering, he completed his masters under Dr. Richard Duke and focused on resonant switching for shunt active filters. Now, he focuses on providing innovativedigital power designfor a range of different products.

Dr. Laird was first exposed to the digital control of power electronics under Aucom. He worked on different induction motor controls, including variable frequency drives and soft starters. This experience, as he describes it, sent him down the path of digital power design and shifted his interest in the digital control aspect of electronics.

As an electronic designer, Dr. Laird focuses on creating practical and innovative ideas, making sure that despite being the best and most advanced in the market, it still conforms to industry standards and regulations. His ultimate goal is to offer electronic design services that is easy to access and efficient; doing this, he says, will help change the world.

Despite challenges in electronics in the future,Dr. Laird believes that the rise of hybrid and fully electric vehicles presentsa great opportunity to increase efficiency and reduce the impact on theenvironment. He’s looking forward to a great future where his expertise indigital power technology will help make the world a more sustainable place.
