Lajos Boros (1928 - 2011)
Painter and Philosopher in Wiesbaden, Germany
Mr Boros, Hungarian born native from Transylvania graduated from the University of Art and Design in Kolozsvár. While a painting and art student at University, he met his future wife, Anna Jakab. They started their own family near Brassó where he also established his first studio and began to work as an artist. Meeting painter János Mattis-Teutsch later would prove to be highly important, as he became his mentor and they formed a very close friendship. He began to develop his painting style influenced by his 'teacher'.
In 1970 he was forced to leave the country for his outspoken opposition to the ideas of the communist regime. He found refuge in Germany and his family could join him five years later.
He stayed in Germany for the rest of his life working as a teacher and a painter. Besides his artistic and pedagogical activities he regularly gave lectures and courses. He also wrote intensively, his main treatise was on his 'painting philosophy'.
His painting style was absolutely unique from the very beginning. His work was almost always non-figurative and as he worked more and more he began to experiment with more and more ideas with the rule sets he invented. As he gained more experience and as he learned more about mysticism, history, anthroposophy (a formal educational, therapeutic, and creative system established by philosopher Rudolf Steiner) and through absorbing highlights of a wide array of arts, he created his own unmistakable style, establishing his own philosophy of painting which he liked to call 'Őskompozició', something like 'Arche-composition' in English. This composition method is based on his mathematical calculations and on a kind of ancestral truth that defines our very existence in the world.
