Leslie Kalmbach
Teacher in Belmont, North Carolina
Born and raised in southern Ohio, my love of reading began early and was nurtured by a variety of fantastic English teachers at my tiny rural school. After a short career detour as an engineering major, I graduated from Austin Peay State University in 2001 with a BA in English.
Teaching in Tennessee and Arkansas, before making my home in North Carolina, offered a unique opportunity to see education in a variety of settings. Currently, I teach senior English at Stuart W. Cramer High School.
While teaching in Gaston County Schools, I earned my NBCT in 2010 and became a Pinnacle Technology Leader in 2011. On a county level, I am a part of the Teacher Leadership Team. On a regional level, I co-presented at the 2013 NC Writing Project Fall conference where I discussed ways to engage 21st century students in classrooms that may or may not contain 21st learning tools. In 2016, I joined the P50 group of educators in search of new ways to incorporate innovative teaching methods into my classroom. Selection into Gaston County School's inaugural Delta Fellows program in the Spring of 2018 promises to provide continued opportunities to grow as an educator.
My passion lies in finding ways to bring together my loves of reading, writing, teaching, and technology.
