Lakeiva Council is a senior majoring in Accounting and Energy Commerce at Texas Tech University. Set to graduate in May 2015, Lakeiva has achieved numerous accomplishments since coming to Lubbock and being involved in the community. Lakeiva is from a neighborhood called Alief, located in souwest Houston, Texas, where she lived with her mother, older brother, and twin sister. Grounding up on the low end of the socio-economic scale, Lakeiva managed to graduate at the top of her class and chose Texas Tech to continue her hopes as a first generation college student.
After graduating high school, Lakeiva decided to pursue three degrees: a bachelors in Energy Commerce, a bachelors in Accounting, and a Masters in Accounting with a concentration in Taxation. Lakeiva has excelled academically earning a 3.4 grade point average during her collegiate years which have been culminated with her being a recipient of awards such as Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities, Texas Tech today student regonition and Raider who Rocks recipient, Cross Cultural Symposium for Texas Tech University scholarship Recipient, and 2013 Mentor of the Year for Mentor Tech.
Equally impressive is how Lakeiva maintains academic excellence while serving and volunteering in a plethora of community and academic service organizations. Lakeiva currently serves as the advisor for Current State of Multicultural Affairs and previously as a professional mentor in the Mentor Tech Program, where she provides guidance and support to First Generation College students and also served as a veteran mentor liasion as a Mentor Cluster leader, in which she help facilitate and guide other mentors through the progam. Lakeiva also served as the Financial Chair and Vice President of 100 Collegiate Women, Chancellor Ambassadors, President Select, Athletics and Undergraduate Admissions, a participant in National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, which recgonizes outstanding academic achievement for first and second year college students; She has also worked in the Center for Campus Life as part of the Red Raider Orientation Crew and the Marsha Sharp for Student Athletes.
Mindful of the importance of giving back, Lakeiva participated in numerous community service projects including Women's Protective Services, IGNITE Middle School Mentoring Project, Communities in Schools (CIS), and the Mentor Tech Student Organization.
