L’Ana Burton

Artist, Teacher, and Writer in Niantic Connecticut

Hi, I’m L’Ana. I’m a Connecticut dance teaching artist living in Niantic. I am passionate about music, movement, arts education and arts integration. I have been a teaching artist for most of my life. My first in-school residency took place in 1979 at Mansfield Middle School in Mansfield CT working with fifth graders and their physical education teacher. We designed a creative dance program to become part of their PE curriculum.

I am the founder of The Connecticut College Children's Dance Center located in New London CT. This program existed from 1986-20018, reaching hundreds of families in Southeastern Connecticut. Creative Dance for People of All Ages served the surrounding communities as well as gave internship jobs to Connecticut College dance majors.

Today I continue to teach primarily in public schools through the Higher Order of Thinking (HOT) Schools which was created thirty years ago in the State of Connecticut's Office of The Arts.

When I am not teaching I am writing a book about this work that spans over fifty years now. If not at my computer, you will find me walking on beaches, dancing and filming solor dance projects on the sand with the ocean as my backdrop.
