In 2008 I opened a letter that changed my life. This letter brought a whole new culture, language, set of friends, life goals & lessons, and eventually my husband into my life. It began, "Dear Sister Infanger" and went on to tell me that I was called to serve in the Taiwan, Kaohsiung mission and I would be speaking Mandarin Chinese.
For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, this letter was a mission call from my church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints www.mormon.org). I had signed up to serve a proselyting mission for 18 months, but at the time of application I had no idea where I'd end up.
After reading the words "Kaohsiung" and "Mandarin" I was filled with a mixture of fear and excitement! Learning Chinese has been one of the biggest blessings in my life. It's opened doors, expanded my view of the world, and helped me see things in a whole new light.
After returning home from my 18 month mission, I taught Chinese at the missionary training center in Utah. When my family was brought to Dallas I met up with an old friend from my mission and we started teaching our children Chinese. It's been an amazing experience! I want to share this gift and I've started teaching Mandarin for Kids in the city of Dallas. Visit my website for more info.
