Hervé Lancelin is the founder and editorial director of ArtCritic, an online contemporary art review established in 1999 and officially recognised by the French Ministry of Culture through the CPPAP (Commission Paritaire des Publications et Agences de Presse).

Under his editorial direction, ArtCritic has developed a rigorous, nuanced and independent critical approach to contemporary art, examining artworks, artists, institutions, galleries, museums, art fairs and independent initiatives through aesthetic, philosophical, social, economic and political perspectives. The publication is committed to renewing the dialogue between artistic creation, critical thought and the contemporary world.
As an art critic and exhibition curator, Hervé Lancelin has written critical essays on hundreds of major international artists and has built a reputation for his demanding eye and deep understanding of contemporary artistic practices and their cultural implications.

He was also honoured to be invited by the Fondation Maeght as a guest curator in 2019, becoming part of the history of one of France’s most prestigious contemporary art foundations, inaugurated in 1964 by André Malraux. This invitation represented a significant milestone in his curatorial career and a personal honour deeply connected to the legacy of modern and contemporary art in France.

Hervé Lancelin is also a collector specialising in post-war and contemporary art and Art Brut. Over the years, he has assembled a museum-quality collection comprising several hundred works by artists from around the world. He is a member of ADIAF, the French association of contemporary art collectors, which awards the annual Marcel Duchamp Prize in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou in Paris. He served on the selection committee for the Marcel Duchamp Prize in 2011 and has been a trustee of the Friends of the Museum of Modern, Contemporary and Outsider Art (LaM in Villeneuve-d'Ascq) since 2010. He also lectures on topics related to contemporary art and art collecting.
