I've always loved the outdoors, especially plants. It all began with a childhood hobby: growing gourds, pumpkins and indian corn, which I sold in the autumn on my parents' front lawn (the money was just a bonus). After college (where I explored another passion: the written word), I took a serendipitous path from the career world into the greenhouse business. After a detour back into the career world (with The Wall Street Journal), I found a way to combine my passions: writing for the Landscaping site on the About.com network, which I've been doing since 2002.
