Anathi Landuele

Hello! My name is Anathi Landulele, a third-year Bachelor of Education student at the University of Johannesburg, specialising in History and Psychology for the Senior and Further Education and Training (FET) Phases.

My journey in Education

My journey into education was not a straight path. I initially began my studies in Social Work, believing that I wanted to support young people through counselling. However, during my practical experiences in schools, I realised that what truly inspired me was the school environment itself. I discovered that teaching provides a unique opportunity to educate, guide, encourage and positively influence learners every day. That realisation led me to pursue education, a decision that has been strengthened by every teaching experience since.

My passion for teaching was also inspired by my grandmother, who dedicated over 30 years of her life to teaching English. Watching her commitment to education showed me the lasting impact that a caring teacher can have on the lives of learners.

My Growth as an Educator

Teaching has also challenged me to grow personally. Although I live with ADHD and once lacked confidence in expressing my thoughts, standing in front of a classroom has helped me develop stronger communication skills and greater confidence. I have come to understand that meaningful learning is not about a teacher simply delivering information—it is about creating a space where teachers and learners build knowledge together through discussion, curiosity and mutual respect.

During my teaching practice, I have taught Life Orientation to Grades 8–12 and History to Grades 8 and 10. These experiences have reinforced my belief that learning should be interactive, relevant and enjoyable. I enjoy connecting historical concepts and Life Orientation topics to current events and encouraging learners to think critically, ask questions and respectfully share different perspectives.

My Growth as an Educator

Beyond the classroom, I am passionate about serving my community through volunteering at Breath of Life Children's Home in my hometown of East London (KuGompo) in the Eastern Cape. I also enjoy drama, cooking, music and films, all of which nurture my creativity and help me connect with people from different backgrounds.

Looking Ahead

Looking ahead, I hope to become a Life Orientation and History educator while also contributing to educational research. My goal is to create classrooms where every learner feels safe, valued and inspired to reach their full potential. I believe that strong relationships are at the heart of meaningful education, and I strive to be the kind of teacher who listens, encourages and motivates learners to believe in themselves. Above all, I want my classroom to be a place where learning is engaging, curiosity is welcomed, and every learner knows that their voice matters.
