For some New Yorkers, a 2008 layoff may have been a tragic blow. For me, it was a wake-up call to start a new life with my son. In Costa Rica.

Nothing I can think of can explain how I landed here, in the smallest town I have ever lived in, in the thick of the jungle, with a 5-year-old who seems to handle it better than I ever will. Adjusting? Trying. Changing and growing? Daily. Easy? Absolutely NOT. Worth it? You bet!
