Larry Clevenger

Dr. Larry Clevenger is an internationally recognizedleader in semiconductor technology – taking new products from innovation todefinition to early production. Since2000 he has defined new semiconductor technologies for IBM as a chip hardwarelead architect, successfully leading teams of 5 to 50 people. His area of excellence is optimizing theon-chip interconnect from silicon devices to semiconductor packaging substratesfor performance, yield, and cost.

Dr. Clevenger has driven many complex research anddevelopment projects and customer deliverables in multi-company, multi-culturalenvironments. For example, Dr. Clevengerdrove 28nm technology qualification to completion in half the projected time, working with three non-US companies.

Dr. Clevenger is a leader in the IBM patent community, with 232 issued patents. His mostprofitable patent, US5624869, “A Method of Forming a Film for a MultilayerSemiconductor Device for Improving Thermal Stability of Cobalt Silicon usingPlatinum or Nitrogen”, is the industry-wide foundation for low-resistancecontacts for semiconductor devices. Heis an advocate to co-workers to maintain their technical vitality throughwriting patents, leading patenting workshops and participating in multiplepatent brainstorming teams. These teamsinnovate and invent both inside and outside their areas of expertise. Dr. Clevenger has coauthored more than 110technical publications. He is a LifetimeMaster Inventor at IBM and a member of the IBM Academy of Technology.

Dr. Clevenger received a B.A. in Material Engineeringfrom UCLA and a Ph.D. in Electronic Materials from MIT.
