Larry Handfield

An extensively accomplished trial lawyer with more than three decades of courtroom experience, Larry Handfield represents clients through The Handfield Firm, a Miami, Florida-based legal practice he established in 1988. Focusing on complex criminal defense cases, the nationally recognized attorney previously served as a State Prosecutor under former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno and chaired the City of Miami Police Oversight Board, a role in which he investigated and dealt with issues of misconduct among law enforcement officials. Additionally, Larry Handfield was a member of Florida’s Statewide Sentencing Guideline Commission, served as Chairman of the Judicial Nominating Commission for the Miami-Dade County Court System, and acted as State Commissioner of Florida’s Statewide Ethics Commission. He was appointed to these three positions by three different Florida governors.
Dr. Handfield has received numerous recognitions and distinctions for his many professional accomplishments over the years. Honored by the National Coalition of Christians and Jews with a Silver Medallion Award for community service, he also presided as the Chairman of the Public Health Trust, an organization that oversees the internationally recognized Jackson Memorial Health System of Miami-Dade County. An alumnus of Bethune-Cookman University, Dr. Handfield maintains ties with his alma mater as Chairman of the institution’s Board of Trustees.
