Since I was six years old all I've ever wanted to do was to be a broadcaster.
It started with my dad and I watching Buffalo Sabres games on the old Empire Sports Network back in Buffalo, NY in 1997.
I remembered a rather loud and unique voice that echoed out of the television and into my ears. His voice was so powerful, eloquent and overall incredible, that the second I heard his voice, I knew what I wanted to do in life.
That man was and is Rick Jeanneret.
And since those youthful days watching "RJ" and Jim Lorentz weave magic on the TV and on the radio, I began to develop my own career in this truly amazing field of endeavor.
My first experience calling hockey games was at the Town Boys and Girls Club when I was 10. My team wasn't playing that night and naturally, I had the idea to do what Rick did for the Sabres.
I got the lineups from both teams on the scorebook and did the game from the stage above the floor along with running the book.
I did it a few more times and I loved it so much, I ended up being sports anchor for my middle school's televised morning announcements.
CSATV was shown in all classrooms at Charter School For Applied Technologies every morning and I handled sports for three years.
From then on my passion for broadcasting was grew feverishly.
After doing CSATV, I did games for my best friend Sean McCarthy's youth hockey team the Buffalo Bisons at Nichols High School at age 13. It was my first time doing ice hockey, attempting to entertain the families that sat in the family room that overlooked one end of the ice.
After continuing to hone my craft, I enrolled at SUNY Buffalo State in 2009 to finally get a chance to broadcast at the college level.
Through a year of producing, I got to do women's soccer and women's hockey sophomore year.
Junior year I was able to work with my colleague Kory Reid as color commentator for the men's team while also filling in as play-by-play on occasion that season.
Finally senior year I assumed the role of head play-by-play for the men's team and held that position for two seasons.
Now I live in Orange County, work as Head Editor for SportSpeak LLC and run my own website (www.hoopsofhollywood.com), with aspirations of one day broadcasting in the pros.
And I hope you'll be along for the ride.
Much Love,
-LL
