Hi there! My name is Latoia Stovel, I am a transfer student from North Dakota State University, however I am originally from The Bahamas! You’re probably wondering how an island chick survived that brutal cold and harsh winters, right? I’m still amazed at myself for sticking it out up there for three and a half years! Honestly though, none of the winters that I experienced up there were unbearable, even though some days felt that way. My last winter there was the most memorable however since I experience my first (and only) blizzard – I actually had to drive through it!
Moving along, I transferred to the University of Georgia in Spring 2018 with the intent of pursuing a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences. However, after my first semester, I decided to change my major to Health Promotion with a double minor in Public Health and Health Policy and Management. At the end of Fall 2018 I was officially accepted into my program, thus I commenced my major courses this semester – I’m super excited since an actual graduation date is in sight now (May 2020)! Since moving to UGA, I experienced some hardships that I thought should have broken my spirit and deter me from wanting to complete my degree, but I overcame them! Apart from those trials though, I have had some of my greatest college experiences here. While football at NDSU is big, it cannot be compared to UGA football! I was able to experience (what I consider) REAL college football – and I love it! My greatest experience and achievement thus far though, happened last fall when I was able to pledge into the first (and greatest!) African American Sorority - Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated – which has been a desire of mine since graduation high school.
