Latoya Veal is the communications director for United States Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-Calif.). Prior to joining Congresswoman Waters’ staff, she worked as press secretary at the National Organization for Women, the largest women's rights activist group in the country. Latoya's passion for political communications led her to Washington in 2011 after her role as the public information officer for the City of Prichard, Ala., where she served as the spokesperson for the mayor's office and every city department including public safety. Before entering the public service arena, she spent time at the NBC affiliate television station in Mobile, Ala.

Latoya is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, where she studied Mass Communications with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism. She is a 2012 graduate of the WeLEAD leadership training program overseen by the Women & Politics Institute at American University. WeLEAD works to increase the number of women working in politics and running for office.

Latoya is a member of several professional and service-based organizations that keep her busy outside of working on Capitol Hill, including the National Association of Black Journalists and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
