Before my sophomore year of high school, I never realized how much I enjoyed volunteering. I never thought about it much beforehand, but once I moved, I started volunteering at a food pantry. For the next three years, I would volunteer every Sunday. I would help make boxes of food for families in need, I would bring those boxes out to the families, and I would help with the management of the warehouse to make sure we had enough space. I watched the food pantry grow from a small start-up with little to no volunteers, to a warehouse full of food and volunteers flowing out the warehouse. I went from a small part of a small team, to leading my own small teams of volunteers. I feel like I blossomed into my new role as a leader, I enjoyed motivating other volunteers, I enjoyed working with the other volunteers to make the food boxes, and most of all I enjoyed helping the members of my community. Working with the food pantry for those three years made me realize that helping others is what makes me most happy. I realized that I want to make a career where I make a real difference for people. I learned that I love to work and group and communicate with people to work towards a goal. When I first started volunteering, I would have never expected how much it would impact my life in the future.
