Leyvi Atun
The name Leyvi --pronounced as Layvee--is not common in the Philippines, the country where I was born. In fact I never met anyone with the same name there up to the time I emigrated to Calgary in Canada in 2002. When my family and I moved to Vancouver, I met people with longer and harder to pronounce names, and so I was quite happy to use my legit name.
Living in the Lower Mainland has opened my eyes to an array of work possibilities and so I decided to change careers, from treasury management to adult education. As they say, you got to do what’ll make you happy. I feel blessed to be given the great opportunity to teach adult immigrants in my city. Being an ELSA Workplace Facilitator is a chance for me to give back to this wonderful country by helping new immigrants develop functional skills to get a job in Canada.
I created this blog to connect to Canadian immigrants, especially the new ones, who feel overwhelmed by what they see and learn every day . I’ve been in that confusing situation and I sure am still learning about the culture and sorting things out.
Perchance means perhaps, possibly or by chance. I believe that most immigrants come here dreaming to be given a chance to find the jobs that they desire. As what Walt Disney said: All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them. So let’s continue our quest for success, and perchance doors will be opened to us.
